Ok, so my brother has owned a 2017 Honda CRV 1.5L w/turbo engine. About 45k miles. Well maintained. No real issues other than a current A/C issue he’s trying to get covered by Honda. He is becoming concerned about potential long term issues with turbos, namely, shorter lifespans typically vs non. He’s looking at potentially trading in and getting an Odyssey V6 non-turbo. CRV is completely paid off. Do you guys think he should unload the CRV in favor of a non? Money is not an issue here, even if he gets a van, he probably would get another non-turbo SUV, like a used Mazda CX-5. Honda, if anyone, should have a most reliable turbo as long as the oil changes are kept short w/full syn changes.
Honestly the 2017 was a rough year for Honda's 1.5T.

I would assume that anyone with these issues is going to have engine troubles down the road. Any time oil is diluted with gas, you usually have Cam/Bearing failures that will follow.
So personally, if it was me, I would say to swap the car now while value might still be decent on it. That's pretty low mileage for the year, just make sure he gets a good value for it.
Thanks Car Guy. I will pass that along. I just saw him today and he’s torn on it. Just terrible bc the CRV is one of the most reliable nameplates in history.
