I've been truck hunting for past days and with some research and some ChatGPT results.
Following trucks to meet my wants. (subject to change)
1. Toyota Tundra TRD Pro
2. Ford F150 Lariat
3. Silverado 1500 LTZ
4. RAM 1500 Limited
5. GMC? unknown..
Going to my local dealerships:
Toyota: I've come to love the bells and whistles of a 2024 tundra 4x4 platinum w/ TRD road package.
Ford: I've come to like XLT & SXT 4x4 but didn't like the hybrid engine. I loved the bells and whistles as well.
RAM: I've only seen the 1500 Bighorn 4x4 but did love the bells and whistles (27Z package).
Chevy: Pending a visit.
My main thing is that I'm moving to Alaska this coming Winter and wanted to research first and buy one there.
I want to make sure I have:
- Heated seats and/or wheel *rear passengers' heaters are optional.
- Decent height when I want to do some camping out in the boonies (off Road packages maybe?).
- Bed size of at least 5.5 (to fit my sports motorcycle)
- Crew max/Super Crew/idk what other terms but a size for my large passenger friends (they're big people..)
- Panorama camera similar to Nissans eagle eye *would be nice to have included
- Budget $50k-$70k or more? Mainly whatever comes close to meeting my needs above.
The problem with the Toyota Tundra, at least right now, is that there are engine failures even for 2024s. I would wait to buy a Tundra until 2025 and research the engine failure issue to determine if it's still a problem.
The Ford Ecoboost 2.7L has been pretty reliable for most people. Sometimes they have cam phaser issues but overall, for how many they sell, they have been pretty reliable.
The Silverado has had lifter issues with their V8s and the 2.7L turbomax is just ok...but long term reliability is still unknown. The 3.0L Duramax Diesel seems to get the most love from owners, it seems reliable so far but not sure how it would do with the Alaska winters.
I'm mostly unfamiliar with Ram but they have the best "deals" right now due to high inventory. I've never thought that Ram was very reliable but some people love them.
