2026 Ram less than 1000 miles .... tach and speedo (non digital dash) freak out if you press brake and start button simultaneously when you get in the cab after a remote start. Came from GMC where this is standard procedure to press both. I found on the Ram you only need to press the start button.
Gauge freak out

I think I saw this in the Facebook groups. Odd I thought I had used the remote start and pressed both but maybe not...I'll have to test it out.

I wanted to have the headline read 2026 Ram but some how I failed. I feel strongly like you. We need to keep calling out these car companies for poor quality that we should not have to accept. Also I feel that they cannot catch everything with how fast stuff moves to market now. So if we don't make it known then how do they try to improve? I also did the 500 mile oil drain and got a good size piece of aluminum. I have always believed in multiple oil changes in the early life of a engine especially the ones I assembled in my younger years. Looks like flashing from a mold/stamping? I’m a lead test tech for ZF suspension 32 years now. I also was a GM guy all my life but my last 2019 Sierra had more problems/issues than all others I owned put together. So hello Ram!!!! ZF axles and transmission!!! Pic below old trim screw washer from my 71 Chevelle for size comparison. image

That's bizarre, that piece of aluminum came out of your oil pan? Looks like aluminum foil!?

Drain plug was fairly snug all the way out. Could not turn out by hand till final few threads. Not like it was destroying threads but tight. After the 20 + minute drain I wiped the drain plug face on the oil pan and this fell into my drain pan. Blue towel felt like it snagged on something. Plug went back in okay. Anyone else notice the extended time it takes to properly drain oil from these 3.0 liter engines? I never had a properly warmed up engine take so long to drain. Had a steady stream for like 20 min. I see this being a problem for quick oil change places doing changes and getting impatient. With no dipstick to check the level I see engines getting overfilled. I measured the oil I took out (7-1/4 quarts) and refilled with 7 quarts (1/4 quart less). Could not get the level sensor to update unless it just not that accurate. I did do it the way the manual said with no luck. Still a week later still showing same level truck came with. I don’t understand why they can’t just make it reset able with a push of a button like your oil life gauge. That would take some of the sting out of not having a dipstick. Kind of sucks not being able to get a visual inspection and or a smell of your oil between changes.
TheCarGuy
Agreed lack of oil dipstick was a dumb decision. I'm guessing when you reset your oil level by the manual it was simply at the same level as before, so it appears that it didn't update. I had the same exact feel on the drain plug, I had to use a socket nearly the entire way out until final few threads so that seems consistent and possibly by design. Maybe they are concerned if it backs itself out, they don't want it doing so fast, this way you'd notice a drip before loss of lots of oil?
When I did both of my oil changes, I put in 7qts exactly and it was at the "full" mark, which is close to 4 o'clock on the gauge. When I received the truck new, it was at the 3 o'clock mark on the digital readout, so the gauge update seemed to work in my case but only because it went up did I notice.
I didn't seem to have the same long drain problem you had, I just opened the cap on the oil fill and it seemed to take a couple of minutes, and be down to a drip, however I did not change my filter out so it's possible if you did, maybe there's some weird vacuum thing going on or it's syphoning from filter on yours?
Did you change filter too, and at the same time the plug was out?
609dry
No I did not change the filter and I did remove the oil cap. But now when I think about it that piece of shrapnel came out of the drain hole when I wiped the pan as it snagged on my blue towel wiper after it was all drained, so maybe that was slowing/blocking the drain hole. Guess I'll see at 1500 miles if it drains faster!! Oil level was at 3 o'clock and stayed there after the filling with 7 quarts. I know I pulled more out for sure minimum of 1/4 quart more. So yours went to the MAX fill line at about 4 o'clock on the gauge?
TheCarGuy
Correct, both drain and fills I have performed are at the max oil level with 7qts and no filter change which seems about right
